NYU'S PREMIER INITIATIVE FOR ASPIRING ENTREPRENEURS

The Entrepreneurs Challenge, hosted annually by the Berkley Center for Entrepreneurship, is a springboard for promising NYU startups. Part-accelerator and part venture competition, this intense program will provide your early-stage team with how-to workshops, hands-on boot camps, 1:1 coaching, and access to prototyping funds—all designed to guide you step-by-step through launching and growing your startup.

NEW VENTURE COMPETITION

The NYU Stern New Venture Competition is the premier platform for identifying, nurturing and showcasing entrepreneurial talent at NYU. The competition challenges aspiring business owners and those excited by the new venture startup process to take their ideas from concept to market. Winners share the $100,000 Ira Leon Rennert Prize (MBA ‘56).

The Rennert Prize is awarded as a KISS agreement.

SOCIAL VENTURE COMPETITION

The NYU Stern Social Venture Competition recognizes and supports the growing number of students and alumni interested in using their entrepreneurial skills to create innovative approaches to tackling social problems, here and abroad. Social Venture Competition winners share a $50,000 prize to help launch their ventures.

The Social Venture Prize is awarded as a KISS agreement.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

STAGE

Successful applicants must be beyond the idea stage and should be able to demonstrate proof of concept and an early prototype. Ideal candidates are those likely to be well-positioned to raise external funding within 6 months after the Entrepreneurs Challenge Final Round in May.

02.

PRIOR FUNDING AND REVENUE

Effective Fall 2021, Ventures must have received less than $500,000 from private investors or institutional funding plus have generated less than $500,000 in revenue during the past 12 months.

03.

VENTURE TYPE

Certain businesses such as consultancies, real estate syndications, and nonprofits are ineligible to compete.

04.

TEAM

Teams must have at least one qualifying NYU representative who holds a significant equity share of the venture. Consult the complete Eligibility Requirements (NVC | SVC) for details on what constitutes a ‘qualifying NYU representative.’

APPLICATION PROCESS

The online application process will reopen in early October. The first step in the application process is to complete an Eligibility Quiz, which will help you determine if your team and venture meet our eligibility requirements.

Teams deemed eligible will be granted immediate access to the application forms and materials. Teams receiving a determination of "not eligible" may submit requests for appeal.

The application itself includes the following components:

  • Venture information
  • Demographic information for all team memberrs 
  • Individual application fees for all team members
  • A written deliverable, called the Opportunity Summary
  • Supplementary images and video to support your Opportunity Summary (optional)
  • Eligibility Statement, signed by every team member 

    Completed applications will be due in early November.

All ventures who have submitted complete applications by the stated deadline will receive a decision in early December.
